Version 2026-10-30. Soma kwa Kiswahili

Written in plain words, because parents and children use this site.

Who is responsible

runs this website and decides how personal data is used (the "data controller"). Contact: admin@creatorz.co.ke.

What we collect

  • Parent or guardian: name, email and profile photo from Google sign-in; optionally a phone number for the weekly summary and class reminders; the language you choose; the date you agreed to our Terms; a protected parent PIN.
  • Each learner: first name, buddy picture, grade, lessons finished, quiz scores and tries, certificates, classes joined, stickers, and ratings or comments from teachers.
  • Voice practice (only if a lesson offers it): short recordings a learner chooses to send to the teacher. Only the parent and that teacher can listen. They are deleted automatically after 90 days, or sooner if you delete the learner.
  • Live classes: when a learner joins and leaves, to charge the wallet per minute. We do not record live classes.
  • Payments and receipts: top-ups and purchases are handled by Paystack (M-Pesa or card). We keep the amount, date, reference and a numbered receipt, never your card number or M-Pesa PIN.
  • Notifications: if you turn them on, your phone's browser gives us a private notification address. We use it only to send class, payment and payout alerts, and delete it when you turn notifications off.

Why we use it

To run lessons, remember progress, let teachers help, take payment, keep children safe, and (if you choose) send a weekly summary and class reminders. We do not sell data and we do not show advertising.

Who else handles data for us

Google (sign-in), Paystack (payments and teacher payouts), 8x8 Jitsi as a Service (live video calls), and video hosts such as Bunny, YouTube or Vimeo (lesson videos). WhatsApp (Meta) and Africa's Talking (SMS) are used only if you ask for the summary or reminders there. Your phone's browser maker (for example Google, Mozilla or Apple) delivers notifications. If a parent switches on the speaking check, the browser may send the few seconds of speech a learner says to its maker (for example Google for Chrome) to turn it into text; we never receive or keep that audio. These services may process data outside Kenya.

Children

A parent or guardian creates every learner profile and agrees to this notice when doing so. Learners only use a first name. Money and parent settings need the parent PIN. Learners cannot message each other privately.

Schools

If you join your child's school class with its code, you agree that the school administrator can see your child's first name, grade, lessons finished and quiz scores for the courses the school assigned to that class. They see nothing else, and not your contact details. You can leave a class in the Parent area at any time and the school stops seeing your child's progress. Courses the school already unlocked stay with your family.

Your rights

You may see, correct or delete your child's data, and withdraw consent at any time. In the Parent area you can download a learner's data and delete a learner (their progress, ratings and recordings are removed). For anything else, email admin@creatorz.co.ke. You may also complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.

How long we keep it

Learner data is kept while the account is active or until you delete it. Payment records and receipts are kept for as long as the law requires.

On your phone

We store small settings on your device (such as which learner is active, your language, and lessons you saved for offline use). Saved lessons contain audio and notes only, never paid video. See also our Terms of Use and Child Safety Policy.
